International Grains Program Announces 2012 Short Course Schedule

Date Posted: January 5, 2012

Manhattan, KS—Providing the grain industry with leading edge training and education in the areas of feed manufacturing and grain management, grain marketing and risk management, and flour milling and grain processing, Kansas State University’s International Grains Program (IGP) releases its 2012 Short Course schedule.

“We are excited about the course offerings for 2012,” says Mark Fowler, IGP associate director.

“We strive to be the pulse of the industry by adapting our programs to meet its changing needs.”

The 2012 schedule features the IGP standard courses, and builds on the momentum that was set in 2011, according to Fowler.

“We had great success in the Spanish language courses last year and look forward to growth in that area in 2012,” Fowler says.

He adds, “We plan to continue offering courses with our strong industry partners that include IAOM (International Association of Operative Millers), Buhler, Inc., AFIA (American Feed Industry Association) and AIBI (American Institute of Baking International).”

A growth area for 2012 is in the distance learning curriculum.

IGP offered its first introduction to flour milling distance course in 2011 and plans are underway to offer it again in June 2012.

“We hope to build the distance course offerings by developing courses in Spanish as well as adapting some of other standard short courses to this model,” Fowler says.

These adaptations are in response to the ever-changing needs of the industry, says Fowler.

He adds, “IGP, as a part of the Department of Grain Science and Industry, offers a long history of serving the industry and holds a future mission to continue to provide a world-class experience for all of our course participants through our state-of the-art facilities and exceptional faculty who are on the leading edge of grain processing and storage.”
