Grainnet Podcast: Dr. Dan O'Brien, Kansas State University Ag Economist, Assesses the Kansas Wheat Harvest
Date Posted: June 15, 2012
The Kansas wheat harvest is in full swing, but instead of a 400 million bushel yield, it may be closer to 350-380 million bushels, says Dr. Dan O'Brien, ag economist at Kansas State University. He says there has been a lot of yield variability from one field to the next, in addition to regional variability attributed to the weather.
USDA had looked to wheat to replace corn in livestock feeding, but O'Brien says the way prices of the two commodities are pointing, that may not happen. O'Brien talks about supply/demand, logistics, and many other issues in this 12 minute interview.
