IAOM Central and Wheat State Districts Meet in Lake Ozark, MO

Nearly 70 members from the International Association of Operative Millers (IAOM) Central and Wheat State Districts attended the 2012 Summer Meeting and Technical Conference, August 2 - 4, at The Lodge of Four Seasons, Lake Ozark, MO.
Due to the hot, humid weather, the social hour followed by a casual picnic-style buffet was held indoors Thursday evening, August 2, at The Lodge of Four Seasons.
A golf outing was held on Saturday morning, August 4, at the Cove Golf Course at the Lodge of Four Seasons.
On Friday, August 3, the technical program was opened by Mike Schuele, IAOM Central District chairperson and milling superintendent, General Mills, Kansas City, MO.
The program included several presentations, covering: Wheat Crop Update, Justin Gilpin, CEO, Kansas Wheat Commission, Manhattan, KS; reducing energy costs in the milling process, Diwakar Mokadam, general manager, IMAS North America, Hamburg, NY; and what’s new in milling and rheology, Tom Sliffe, regional sales manager, Perten Instruments, Overland Park, KS; and John Hunter, product manager, Buhler, Inc., made a presentation about advancements in mix plant designs and blending systems.
Adam Crampton, western region sales manager, and David Weber, market manager, Tuthill Corporation, Springfield, MO, spoke about getting the most out of positive displacement blowers.
Jerry Heath, president, Industrial Fumigant Co., Lenexa, KS, offered a fumigant update and discussed methyl bromide and alternatives.
Dale Pedersen, fall protection specialist, Fall Protection Systems, Florrisant, MO, spoke about choosing proper safety equipment in providing fall protection.
Also attending the conference were Melinda Farris, executive vice president, Shannon Henson, director of meetings and exhibits, and Danni Altman, administrative assistant, IAOM, Overland Park, KS.
Farris provided a brief overview concerning upgrades and changes to the IAOM website.
IAOM past president Joe Woodard, general manager, ADM Milling Company, Arkansas City, KS, also attended the event and offered welcoming remarks and an update on IAOM activities and programs.
Woodard and Farris also took the opportunity to express their thanks to those who participated in the second and very successful International Milling Education Foundation (IMEF) live and silent auctions held at the 2012 IAOM Conference and Expo, May 7-11, in Spokane, WA.
This year’s auctions raised $87,000 for the IMEF.
A table top conference also was held and included twelve suppliers, which included: Food Protection Alliance; Great Western Mfg. Co., Inc.; Kice Industries; IMAS North America; Industrial Fumigant Co.; Inovair; Midwest Process Solutions; Nitta Corporation; Perten Instruments; Sefar; Vortex Corp.; and and W.D. Patterson.
Attendees also were reminded that the 117th Annual IAOM Conference and Expo, is scheduled to be held May 7 -11, 2013, at the Niagara Convention Center, Niagara, ON.
Before the close of Friday’s sessions, business meetings for the Central and Wheat State districts were held for the election of officers in 2012-2013.

2012 IAOM Wheat State District and Central District Winter Meetings
The Wheat State District Winter meeting and technical conference is scheduled to be held Dec. 7, 2012 in Wichita, KS.
The Central District Winter conference is scheduled for December 14, 2012 at the New Theater Restaurant, Overland Park, KS.
The Central and Wheat State Districts 2013 Summer meeting will be held on July 25-27 at the Lodge of Four Seasons, Lake Ozark, MO.
