ABASE to Revive Biodiesel Fuel Testing Standard

Date Posted: January 4, 2008

St. Joseph, MI—The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has initiated a project to revise existing standard ASAE EP552, Reporting and Testing of Fuel Properties When Testing Diesel Engines with Alternative Fuels Derived from Biological Materials.

ASAE EP552 covers testing of any alternative fuel derived from biological materials, including blends with petroleum diesel.

With the rapid growth of the biodiesel industry, however, the standards and practices for manufacturing, testing, and utilizing biodiesel have evolved considerably, making some of the content of EP552, especially the cited ASTM and other national standards, out of date.

The revised document will more accurately reflect current biodiesel practices and national and international standards.

Additional reviewers for this project are needed, especially among producers and users of biodiesel fuels.

Those with an interest and expertise in the subject matter are asked to contact Scott Cedarquist at 269-429-0300.
