East Lansing—The head of a cutting-edge international fertilizer company will discuss Tuesday, Jan. 13, how his company has become a world leader in advanced fertilization technologies, retail agronomy and distribution when he presents at the Michigan Agri-Business Association’s Winter Conference and Trade Show.

Michael Wilson, president and CEO of Calgary, Alberta-based Agrium Inc., will be a featured speaker at the conference, which runs from Monday, Jan. 12, through Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the Lansing Center in Lansing.

Wilson will be available to the news media immediately after his breakfast presentation, which begins at 7:30 a.m.

Wilson was named “Business Person of the Year” by CalgaryInc Magazine, which attributed Agrium’s success in part to more focus on the research and development of high-yield fertilizers.

“Michael Wilson has driven Agrium to become a worldwide leader in advanced fertilization technologies, retail agronomy – now the U.S.’s largest agronomy retailer – and the agri-business community has certainly taken notice,” MABA President Jim Byrum said.

“We’re very excited to have Wilson and other international agri-business leaders come to Lansing and share ideas and experience that can help grow agri-business, increase profits and create jobs right here in Michigan.”

The head of Monsanto’s global agri-business efforts will discuss worldwide growth strategies when he presents on Monday at the Winter Conference and Trade Show.

Brett Begemann, vice president of Monsanto’s global commercial division, will be a featured speaker at the conference, held Jan. 12-14 at the Lansing Center in downtown Lansing.

Begemann will deliver his strategies for growth during the noon luncheon on Monday, Jan. 12.

He will be available to the news media immediately after the luncheon, around 1:15 p.m.

“Brett Begemann and Monsanto are leaders in agri-business and have been on the cutting edge of global strategies in moving agriculture forward at a time when we face great challenges and tremendous opportunities,”

MABA President Jim Byrum said.

“Begemann and our other speakers will talk about how agriculture can use innovation and technology to help farmers and agri-businesses around the world produce more.

"Agribusinesses help farmers increase yield so they can be successful, produce healthier foods, improve animal feeds and produce more fiber, while also reducing agriculture's impact on our environment.

"We’re very excited to have Begemann and other international agri-business leaders come to Lansing and share information that can help grow agri-business, increase profits and create jobs right here in Michigan.”

Begemann has been responsible for redesigning Monsanto’s business models in several countries to optimize Monsanto’s chemistry business, and the growth potential of seeds and traits.

He has a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from University of Missouri Columbia Missouri.

The 76th Annual Winter Conference and Trade Show will feature experts who will discuss a range of issues in agriculture, from fertilizer and grain issues to the bio-economy.

Domestic and international buyers will also be on hand for the Michigan Bean Shippers Association’s annual meeting, which is part of the conference.
