Allendale Inc. Issues Quarterly Grain Stocks and Planted Acreage Estimates

Date Posted: June 21, 2013

The Planted Acreage report is a survey taken of farmers during the first two weeks of June.

It reflects their responses for that particular point in time.

Corn planted acres are expected to decrease 2.918 million acres from USDA's March Prospective Plantings survey.

This reflects both Preventive Plant as well as acres switched to soybeans.

This number implies the second largest acreage in the past 50 years

Soybean acres are expected to increase by 2.114 million acres. Late corn and spring wheat planting, and a change in corn/soybean profitability is responsible.

This is a record soybean planting.

Wheat acres are seen 684,000 lower than the March survey. A sizable adjustment to spring wheat, though nowhere near a record change, was made.

This is the fourth lowest acreage in 40 years.
