Rail Traffic Returns to Normal as Repairs Continue on Tracks in Mississippi River RegionDate Posted: July 17, 2008 This article is reprinted from the USDA's July 17 Grain Transportation Report. Railroads have cleared most of the flood-related backlogs that slowed grain and ethanol traffic in the Midwest, but some traffic is still moving across diverted routes. BNSF reports only one closed section of track due to floodrelated damage—between Burlington, IA, and West Quincy, MO. In Cedar Rapids, IA, the Iowa Northern railroad reports the loss of two key bridges. However, Iowa Northern - with the assistance and cooperation that has been typical throughout the flood crisis - has been moving unit trains of grain from the area on the networks of both the UP and CN railroads.
