The U.S. Grains Council hosted a seminar for swine disease management professionals in the city of Wuhan this week.
Participants from roughly twelve provinces attended.
The seminar was led by USGC consultants, Drs. Robert Morrison and Gordon Spronk, who reviewed up-to-date techniques that have been used in the modern swine industry in the United States.
Jason Yan, USGC technical program director, said representatives of 50 swine operations were invited to the conference, but representatives from more than 100 farms attended.
“The newly established National Swine Industry Technology Support Project invited its about 20 experiment stations, all being large swine operations.
Many longtime USGC partner farms also participated in the seminar,” he said.
Many questions about pig flow and disease control methods were raised during the seminar, according to Yan.
“We expect the practical techniques reviewed in the seminar will help to improve the production and herd health of the producers’ farms, which will ultimately create additional demand for feed grains,” he said.
Consultants will also conduct four onsite farm visits in the Hubei and Guangdong provinces to discuss face-to-face with managers and technicians herd health management issues.
