Exports of U.S. Corn Exceeds 54.3 Million Tons for 2005/06 Marketing YearDate Posted: September 11, 2006 The following is taken from the U.S. Grains Council September 8, Global Update. Exports of U.S. corn exceeded 54. 3 million tons (2.1 billion bushels) for the 2005/2006 marketing year, according to USDA’s export sales report released earlier today. Sales to the top five markets for U.S. grain – Japan, Mexico, Korea, Taiwan and Egypt – increased compared to the previous year’s sales, accounting for approximately 43 percent of total 2005/06 corn exports. “The Council is pleased to see export demand for U.S. corn reach its highest level in a decade,” said Erick Erickson, USGC special assistant for planning, evaluation and projects. “We are active in all major markets, as well as smaller and developing markets, for U.S. corn." Strong export demand this year and in 2007 does not mean the Council can or will slacken their efforts to expand and defend U.S. grain exports around the world, said Erickson. Sorghum exports were reported down slightly due to decreased production. Exports still account for nearly half of all U.S. sorghum use. For more information, call U.S. Grains Council at 202-789-0789.
