Omaha, NE—GEAPS honored 27 companies at Exchange 2008 for their outstanding safety records last year.

The companies, representing 387 separate grain facilities, recorded nearly 13.1 million employee hours without a work-related lost-time injury or illness during 2007.

Kevin Danner, chairman of the joint GEAPS-NGFA Joint Committee on Safety, Health & Environmental Quality, praised the • participants for their skill and dedication to safety.

Danner presided over the Exchange Safety Awards presentation, held in Omaha on Feb. 26.

The list (below) indicates companies and the number of their facilities that did not record a work-related lost-time injury or illness last year.

Extended Records of Achievement

GEAPS also honored companies and facilities with extended records of achievement in safety.

One of the awards went to the top five facilities, measured through the years in terms of cumulative hours without a lost-time injury or illness.

Winners honored at the Exchange were:

• Cargill Grain & Oilseeds facility in Westwego, LA.

• The Bunge Milling facility in Atchison, KS.

• The Anderson’s facility in Champaign, IL.

• Bunge North America, Danville, IL

• Cargill AgHorizons in East St. Louis, IL.

Honors in another category -- the top five facilities in terms of consecutive years they’ve received a GEAPS safety award – went to:

1. Bunge North America’s DeSoto Landing facility in Arkansas City, AR. – 29 years

2. Bunge North America’s Fountain Bluff facility in Grand Tower, IL. --25 years:

3. Cargill Inc.’s facility in Tipton, IN. – 22 years

4. Four facilities each had 21 years without a lost-time work-related injury or illness. They are: Bunge North America’s Huffman facility in Blytheville, KY.; Bunge North America’s facility in Hickman, AR.; Bunge North America’s facility in Yazoo City, MS.; and Bunge North America’s facility in LaGrange, MO.

5. The Bunge North America facility in Poplar Bluff, MO. – 20 years.
