GROWMARK Announces 2014 Wisconsin Essay Contest Winner

Aurora Daniels of Juda, Wis., has been named the Wisconsin state winner of the 2014 GROWMARK essay contest for FFA members.

The theme of this year’s contest was “Promoting Sustainability and Conservation of Natural Resources.”

In her contest entry, Daniels said: “Protecting soil and water quality increases crop productivity and community wellness. The Wisconsin Land and Water Conservation Association states, ‘Every citizen benefits from the protection of our natural resources.’ Sustainability and conservation practices maintain healthy soils and strong farms.”

Daniels is a student at Juda High School and a member of the Juda FFA chapter.

Her FFA advisor is Ralph Johnson.

As the contest winner, Daniels will receive a $500 award from GROWMARK at the Wisconsin FFA State Convention, held in Madison during June.

The Juda FFA chapter will also receive a $300 award in honor of her accomplishment to help future students.

Four state runners-up will each receive a $125 award.

The runners-up and their FFA chapters are, in alphabetical order: Whitley Harelstad, New Auburn FFA, New Auburn, Wis.; Bailey Hill, Viroqua FFA, Viroqua, Wis.; Ryan Knuth, Reedsburg FFA, Loganville, Wis.; and Matthew Schadt, Watertown FFA, Watertown, Wis.

This is the twenty-first year for the program, sponsored by the GROWMARK System and FS member cooperatives, in conjunction with state FFA leaders, to help young people develop their writing skills, learn about current issues in agriculture, and understand the unique role of cooperatives.
