GSI Group Plans Global Training Facility at Assumption, IL Headquarters; Set to Open in April

Date Posted: January 29, 2010

Assumption, IL—With an enhanced focus on education and knowledge, GSI Group announced Jan. 29 it will build a full-scale, world-class training facility on its main campus in Assumption, IL.

“The Burl A. Shuler Learning Center will be a hub for understanding and delivering,” says Jeff Fjelstul, Director of Technical Services.

“We developed it by working closely with, and listening to, our Dealer network and our customers.”

Designed around industry needs, the Center continues the long tradition of its namesake, the late Burl A. Shuler.

A 30-year veteran GSI employee, Shuler passed away suddenly in 2009.

“I know Burl would have been honored and humbled,” says Jean Shuler, Burl’s wife. “Burl was a lot about teaching. Any knowledge he could share to help someone else, he was more than willing.”

The Learning Center will encompass more than 10,000 square feet and will consist of four classrooms, a reception area, a promo shop, a large bay area with live product and many other features still in the concept stages. Dealers, employees and customers will learn in space designed for both traditional structured learning and hands-on product courses.

“The new Learning Center gives GSI a formal strategy and year-round location for training,” says John Puckett, Project Manager. “It allows us to expand our knowledge center beyond seasonal, one-off training and create planned, effective centers for expertise designed around industry needs.”

For 2010, the Learning Center’s educational programs will focus on the grain industry. GSI hopes to expand the curriculum to include protein industry topics in 2011.

Grand opening ceremonies for the Burl A. Shuler Learning Center are set for April 10.

Classes will begin April 12.
