Rail
U.S. railroads originated 11,499 carloads of grain during the week ending December 27, down 41 percent from the
previous week, down 32 percent from the same week last year, and 33 percent lower than the 3-year average.
During the week ending January 3, average Secondary Railcar Bids/Offers were $84 under tariff for non-shuttle,
$21 lower than last week.
Shuttle rates were $290 und er tariff, $90 lower than last week.
Ocean
During the week ending January 1, 36 ocean-going grain vessels were loaded in the Gulf, 10 percent lower than the
same week last year.
Within the next 10 days 49 vessels are due, down 36 percent from last year.
Barge
During the week ending January 3, barge grain movements totaled 465,301 tons, 31 percent higher than the
previous week and 19 percent lower than the same period last year.
Fuel
During the week ending January 5, U.S. average diesel fuel prices decreased 4 cents per gallon to $2.29—2 percent
lower than the previous week, and 32 percent lower than the same week last year.
