Sub-freezing temperatures during March 25-26, some dipping to the teens, have jeopardized the vitality of the wheat crop in the Southern Plains which had been struggling toward development despite less than adequate moisture in many areas.

Assessing the impact of the cold temperatures on Oklahoma wheat is Jeff Edwards, small grains Extension specialist at Oklahoma State University (405-744-9617). Assessing the impact on Texas wheat is Dr. Travis Miller, Extension Program Leader in the Department of Soils and Crop Science of Texas A&M University(979-845-4008).
