Low water levels on the mid-Mississippi River from St. Louis, MO to Cairo, IL, are threatening barge traffic. Authorities attribute the problem to the lack of rain and indicate the current restrictions may result in a closure of that portion of the river without increased rainfall in the Mississippi watershed.

Chief of Operations for the St. Louis District of the Army Corps of Engineers, Lou Dell'orco answers questions about the water levels, action being taken to deepen the channel, the potential for increasing the flow of water from the Missouri River to enhance the depth of the Mississippi.
