Last week, IAOM held its Mill Maintenance I course in Kansas City.
Highlights of the class included a tour of the Vortex Values Mobile Display Unit, including demonstrations of Vortex slide gates, diverter valves, and iris valves; and a half day tour of Great Western Manufacturing seeing hands on demonstrations, and listening to presentations on sifters and sifter maintenance.
Other presenters at the 2.5-day course included Pepper Maintenance, IBT, Kaeser Compressors, Independent Electric, AIB, and Martin Sprocket & Gear.
Dr. Jeff Gwirtz, IAOM technical advisor, moderated the course and also presented on various topics.
Topics included: preventive maintenance, automation, gate and valve maintenance, bearings and transmission maintenance, air compressor maintenance, product safety and maintenance, belts, chains and power transmissions, maintenance and OSHA, and maintenance process auditing.
Students in the full-to-capacity class had positive reviews and were happy for the opportunity to hear from the presenters.
One student noted in his course evaluation, "It was an awesome course with a lot of great information and real-world examples.
"I loved being able to interact with vendors and each one had great content to help us. Very well done and presented."
The next Mill Maintenance II class will be held in October of 2013 in Wichita, Kan.
