IAOM Central and Wheat State Districts Meet in Lake Ozark, MO

Nearly 50 members from the International Association of Operative Millers (IAOM) Central and Wheat State Districts attended the 2013 Summer Meeting and Technical Conference, July 25 - 27, at The Lodge of Four Seasons, Lake Ozark, MO.
The social hour followed by a casual picnic-style buffet was held indoors Thursday evening, July 25, at The Lodge of Four Seasons.
A golf outing was held on Saturday morning, July 27, at the Cove Golf Course at the Lodge of Four Seasons.
On Friday, July 26, the technical program was opened by Clint Church, IAOM Central District chairperson, and milling superintendent, Cereal Food Processors, Inc., Kansas City, KS.
The program included several presentations, covering: Wheat Crop Update, Justin Gilpin, CEO, Kansas Wheat, Manhattan, KS; dust collection – design and maintenance, Eric Stefan, technical sales, Kice Industries, Wichita, KS; a new rollstand belting splicing technique; Bob Klasek, manager of business development, Nitta Corporation of America, Suwanee, GA; and a presentation about the benefits of wheat heating – improving efficiency and sanitation, Josef Reiser, product manager, Buhler, Inc., Minneapolis, MN.
Ron Lindgren, industrial sales manager – milling and grain, Foss North America., Eden Prairie, MN, spoke about ash in the milling industry.
Chelle Hartzer, product manager – technical services, Industrial Fumigant Co., Lenexa, KS, offered a fumigant update and discussed several emerging trends and alternatives to control insects effectively and economically.
Joe Altenhofen, grain division product manager of industrial rubber products group, IBT Grain Belt Division, Wichita, KS, spoke about its firm’s belt, buckets and software to help design elevator legs based on output.
Also attending the conference were Melinda Farris, executive vice president; Shannon Henson, director of meetings and exhibits; Carol Shankel, director of professional development; and Danni Altman, administrative assistant, IAOM, Overland Park, KS.
Farris provided a brief overview concerning upcoming IAOM events and the offerings of correspondence milling and resident milling courses.
IAOM past president Aaron Black, director of operations, Wilkins Rogers Mills, Mount Joy, PA, also attended the event and offered welcoming remarks and an update on IAOM activities and programs.
Black also presented Church with a certificate of appreciation for serving as IAOM’s Central District Chairperson.
Black and Farris also took the opportunity to express their thanks to those who participated in the third and very successful International Milling Education Foundation (IMEF) silent auction held at the 2013 IAOM Conference and Expo, April 29 - May 3, in Niagara Falls, ON.
This year’s auctions raised $50,000 for the IMEF.
At the Lake Ozark meeting, $301 also was raised for the International Milling Education Foundation (IMEF) from raffle ticket sales that offered the chance to win a Barnes & Noble Nook, donated by Nitta Corporation.
The winners of the raffle drawings were Jeff Seeger, Great Western Mfg., Co. (a double winner of the Nook and a Spafinder gift card); Brad Beckwith, ConAgra Mills (Starbucks gift card); and Cary Efurd, Caravan Ingredients (Jiff Mix Tour Case, donated by Chelsea Milling Co.).
A table top conference also was held and involved 10 suppliers, which included: Food Protection Alliance; Foss North America; Great Western Mfg. Co., Inc.; Kice Industries; Industrial Fumigant Co.; Perten Instruments; Rotary Airlock, LLC; Sefar, Inc.; Vortex Corp.; and W.D. Patterson.
Attendees also were reminded that the 118th Annual IAOM Conference and Expo, is scheduled to be held May 19 - 23, 2014, at the Omaha Hilton Hotel and CenturyLink Center, Omaha, NE.
Before the close of Friday’s sessions, business meetings for the Central and Wheat State districts were held for the election of officers in 2013-2014.

2013 IAOM Wheat State District and Central District Winter Meetings
The Wheat State District Winter meeting and technical conference is scheduled to be held Dec. 6, 2013 in Wichita, KS.
The Central District Winter conference is scheduled for December 13, 2013 at the New Theater Restaurant, Overland Park, KS.
The Central and Wheat State Districts 2014 Summer meeting will be held on July 24-26, 2014, at the Chateau on the Lake, Branson, MO.
