Annual Illinois and Mississippi River Barge Tours Scheduled For Early AugustDate Posted: July 3, 2006 Bloomington, IL--Illinois Corn Growers Association along with the Illinois Farm Bureau, Illinois Soybean Association, Iowa Corn Growers Association, and Midwest Area River Coalition (MARC 2000) will be hosting a series of educational barge tours along the Illinois River from August 1-3, 2006 and on the Mississippi River from August 4, 7-11, 2006. Illinois River Barge Tours will be morning tours only and are scheduled on: August 1 - LaSalle/Ottawa, IL August 2 - Peoria/Pekin, IL August 3 - Beardstown/Meredosia, IL Mississippi River Barge Tours will be morning, afternoon, or both, depending on the site. August 4 - Alton, IL: Morning/Afternoon August 7 - Quincy, IL: Morning Only August 8 - Burlington, IA: Afternoon Only August 9 - Bettendorf, IA: Morning Only August 11 - Dubuque, IA: Morning Only On the barge tour you will experience the mechanics of river transportation, hear local businesses explain how they utilize the river, as well as hear a presentation on watershed management and environmental restoration. It is a great time to sit back, relax, and experience the connection between the river, the economy, and you. Each tour lasts 3 to 4 hours, with morning registration from 7:30 a.m. and afternoon registration at 11:00 a.m. All participants must be at least 12 years of age or older. Boarding a barge may be difficult for those with disabilities or mobility restrictions. Barge tours are free of charge. Optional services for bus transportation and lunch refreshments are available for purchase upon reserving a seat. Registrations are on a first come first serve basis and the reservation deadline is July 21, 2006. Reservations by phone will only be accepted when paying by credit card.
