International Grains Program Announces 2013 Course Schedule

Date Posted: January 2, 2013

Manhattan, KS—The new year motivates Kansas State University’s International Grains Program to continue to grow.

Building on the traditions of providing high technology training opportunities in the areas of feed manufacturing and grain management, grain marketing and risk management, and flour milling and grain processing is something IGP strives for in the new year.

“We are excited about the course offerings for 2013,” says Mark Fowler, IGP associate director.

“We strive to be the pulse of the industry by adapting our programs to meet its changing needs.”

The 2013 schedule features the IGP standard courses, and builds on the momentum that was set in 2012, according to Fowler.

“Going into 2013, we hope to continue to build on the growth and success that we’ve had in the past few years,” Fowler says.

“We want to make a positive impact by expanding the scope of our course offerings.”

A growth area has been in the distance learning curriculum.

IGP offered its first introduction to flour milling distance course in 2011 and offered it again in 2012.

For the 2013 distance learning, IGP will be offering the first time introduction to flour milling all in Spanish.

“We are particularly excited about the development and expansion of the distance learning curriculum,” Fowler says.

“We are anxious to start the Spanish flour milling course as well as the flour quality control and quality assurance course.”

These adaptations are in response to the ever-changing needs of the industry, Fowler says.

He adds, “IGP, as a part of the Department of Grain Science and Industry, offers a long history of serving the industry and holds a future mission to continue to provide a world-class experience for all of our course participants through our state-of the-art facilities and exceptional faculty who are on the leading edge of grain processing and storage.”
