K-State Grain Science & Industry Dept. Honors Alumni and Service Award WinnersDate Posted: May 13, 2010 Manhattan, KS—Kansas State Universitýs Department of Grain Science and Industry recognized several alumni and service award winners at an April 14 banquet in Manhattan. Award winners included: Outstanding Service • Melinda Farris, Executive Vice President of the International Association of Operative Millers. Farris has been instrumental in strengthening the relationship between IAOM and K-State, including expanding the IAOM-K-State milling course program and serving on the grain science department́s advisory board. Prior to joining IAOM in 2004, she was communications manager for the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia. • National Manufacturing Company - Roland Temme, John Albers and Dan Moore. National Manufacturing is a division of TMCO, Inc. Its National Product Line manufactures dough recording equipment, mixers, ovens, fermentation cabinets and other equipment. TMCO produces grain bins, control enclosures for irrigation systems and other equipment. Outstanding Alumni • Jim Brown - President and majority owner of Fourth & Pomeroy Associates, Inc., a regional feed manufacturer doing business as Key Feeds. Brown is a 1959 K-State graduate with a bacheloŕs degree in feed technology. • Hal Ross - Owner of Ross Mills in Wichita, Newton, and Wellington, Kan., which are operated by Horizon Milling. Ross is a 1949 K-State graduate with a bacheloŕs degree in milling science and management. In 2001, he made a lead donation to K-Statés Hal Ross Mill. • Clodualdo "Ody" Maningat - Vice President of Applications Technology and Technical Services at MPG Ingredients. He is an adjunct faculty member in K-Statés grain science department. He holds many patents and has co-authored numerous research papers and book chapters in grain and food science publications. • Ronald Zelch - Product Knowledge and Training Manager for Caravan Ingredients, a division of bakery ingredient supplier CSM. He is also the president of Bakers National Education Foundation, which provides funding for the BNEF Instructor of Bakery Science and Management and the BSM scholarship in K-Statés Grain Science Department. K-Statés Department of Grain Science and Industry is celebrating its centennial anniversary this year with lectures from industry leaders and other activities.
