K-State Southeast Ag Research Center to Host Wheat Tour May 21 in Parsons, KS

Parsons, KS—Kansas State University’s Southeast Agricultural Research Center will host a wheat tour Thursday, May 21 at the Parsons field.

The tour begins with registration and a breakfast at 7:30 a.m., with the program beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The breakfast is sponsored by several local companies.

The event will feature several presentations, including:

• Tour of Wheat Variety Plots (31 Varieties) – Doug Shoup, K-State Research and Extension agronomist; Kelly Kusel, K-State research technologist; and seed company representatives.

• Crop Disease Concerns for 2009 – Doug Jardine, K-State Extension plant pathologist;

• Sunflower Production in Southeastern Kansas – Jim Long, Extension crop variety development agronomist; and

• Nitrogen Management for Winter Wheat – Kenneth Kelley, Extension crops and soils agronomist.

The K-State Southeast Agricultural Research Center’s Parsons field is located immediately south of U.S. Highway 400 on Ness Road (North 32nd Street).

In case of rain, the program will be held indoors.
