Swea City, IA–-Loof’s Mini Mart on Highway 9 in Swea City, IAwill be selling cleaner-burning E85 for $1.89 per gallon on Columbus Day, Monday, October 8, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The station is also offering special prices on doughnuts, tacos and root beer floats during the four-hour promotion.

The event is being promoted by Loof’s Mini Mart and the Iowa Clean Air Choice™ Team, a coalition of organizations that support the use of cleaner-burning biofuels in Iowa.

During the promotion, owners of flex-fuel vehicles – cars, trucks and SUVs designed to run on the alternative fuel E85 or gasoline can purchase as much as 30 gallons per vehicle at the $1.89 price.

“More and more Iowa drivers are discovering a new world of choices at the pump that are made of largely renewable, locally produced ethanol instead of petroleum,” said Jessica Zopf, director of the American Lung Association of the Iowa’s Clean Fuel and Vehicle Technologies program.

“In the second quarter of 2007, Iowans bought more than 800,000 gallons of E85, a 40 percent increase from the same period last year.

"The number of E85 outlets in the state has also increased sharply, today nearly 70 stations in Iowa offer a clean air choice at the pump.”
