Minor Fire at POET Biorefining-Groton, SD Does Not Cause Damage or Lost Time

Groton, SD—At 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4, there was a fire in some ductwork at POET Biorefining—Groton, an ethanol production facility near Groton, S.D.

Fire suppression equipment at the facility was initiated and the fire was completely extinguished within 10-15 minutes.

As a precautionary measure, plant employees contacted the Groton Fire Department.

By the time they arrived, plant fire suppression equipment had extinguished the fire.

The fire occurred while the plant was shut down for scheduled maintenance and the plant began operating again the next day according to the original schedule.

Initial investigations of the area indicate there was little to no damage to the plant. We are thoroughly investigating the cause of the fire.

In all cases, POET production facilities work closely with local emergency response agencies to plan for events like what occurred today.

The Groton fire department has previously conducted drills at POET Biorefining—Groton and the next day's response went completely according to plan.
