NAWG Elects Jerry McReynolds First Vice PresidentDate Posted: March 2, 2009 Woodston farmer Jerry McReynolds was elected First Vice-President of the National Association of Wheat Growers during the Association’s Board of Directors meeting in Grapevine, Texas Feb. 28. McReynolds raises wheat and sorghum and operates a commercial cow herd in Rooks County. He has been active in numerous NAWG committees, including the NAWG Environmental Policy Committee and as a member of NAWG’s Domestic Policy, Nominating and Budget Committees and the NAWG/U.S. Wheat Associates Joint Biotechnology Committee. McReynolds has held several leadership positions in the Kansas Association of Wheat Growers, including all of the officer chairs. As KAWG president, he helped start the Kansas Farm Bill Coalition, the first of its kind. He was also involved in the process that culminated the cooperative agreement between KAWG and the Kansas Wheat Commission. “Jerry McReynolds possesses outstanding leadership skills that will serve the wheat industry well as he progresses through the NAWG officer rotations,” says Dusti Fritz, chief executive officer of Kansas Wheat. “These next two years will be critical for production agriculture. Jerry’s vision and common sense will certainly be an asset for wheat farmers.” McReynolds holds a BS in agricultural economics from Kansas State University. He has participated in the Kansas Agricultural and Rural Leadership Program and in NAWG’s Wheat Industry Leadership of Tomorrow program. He and his wife, Diane, have three grown children. In 2003, Jerry and Diane were the recipients of the Kansas Master Farmer and Master Farm Homemaker Award, given by the Kansas Cooperative Extension Service and Kansas Farmer magazine. Other members of the 2009 NAWG officer corps elected were: • Karl Scronce, Klamath Falls, Oregon, president; • Wayne Hurst, Burley, Idaho, second vice president; • Erik Younggren, Hallock, Minn., secretary-treasurer; and • David Cleavinger, Wildorado, Texas, immediate past president. NAWG officers typically “run the chairs” for five years after being selected as secretary-treasurer, though they all must be interviewed and recommended by the NAWG Nominating Committee and approved by the NAWG Board of Directors on an annual basis.
