The National Grain and Feed Association (NGFA) paid tribute to three individuals for outstanding service to the industry during the organization's 188th annual convention March 30-April 1 on Hilton Head Island, SC.
Approximately 640 people attended the 2014 convention at the Westin Hilton Head Resort, up from about 600 at the 2013 convention in San Francisco, CA.
NGFA President Randall Gordon presented the association's 2014 Congressional Leadership Award March 31 to U.S. Rep. Bob Gibbs, R-OH.
Rep. Gibbs was cited for his work in crafting a market-oriented 2014 Farm Bill and his advocacy for upgrading the nation's waterways infrastructure.
Gibbs also served as the keynote speaker for the convention.
Also honored for their years of service to the NGFA were Tom O'Connor, formerly NGFA director of technical services, now retired, and Steve Strege, retiring this year as executive secretary of the North Dakota Grain and Feed Association.
During the NGFA's annual business meeting April 1, member companies elected association officers for 2014-15:
* Chairman Gary Beachner, president and CEO of Beachner Grain, Parsons, KS.
* First Vice Chairman John Heck, senior vice president of The Scoular Co., Omaha, NE.
* Second Vice Chairman Eric Wilkey, president of Arizona Grain Inc., Casa Grande, AZ.
Members also elected 17 to three-year terms on the NGFA board of directors.
During the annual meeting, member companies also approved an amendment to the NGFA Rail Arbitration Rules incrasing the cap on claims for mandatory arbitration from $200,000 to $400,000.
The NGFA has scheduled its 119th annual convention for March 15-17, 2015, at the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk in San Antonio, TX.
