North Dakota Grain Dealers Educational Foundation Announces Scholarship Winners and New OfficersDate Posted: October 9, 2008 The North Dakota Grain Dealers Educational Foundation has announced the names of its scholarship winners for the 2008-2009 academic year. Ten students will receive $750 scholarships. Award winners, hometowns, colleges and curriculums in which the students are enrolled are as follows: North Dakota State University at Fargo, ND Michael Bjertness, Hickson, ND in Crop & Weed Science Kevin Buxa, Harvey, ND in Agricultural Economics Katie Conklin, Douglas, ND in Crop & Weed Science Tyler Klain, Ruso, ND in Agricultural Economics Justin Mack, Velva, ND in Agricultural Economics Taylor Mattson, Carrington, ND in Crop & Weed Science Cory Skauge, Sabin, MN, in Agribusiness Nicholas Smith, Carrington, ND in Crop & Weed Science Bismarck State College Adam Balk, Sawyer, ND in Agribusiness Sales & Service North Dakota State College of Science Darren Klinger, Tower City, ND in Crop Production Sales & Service The Foundation also awarded a grant of $897 for crop and weed plant mounts, seed sets and soil sieves to Bismarck State College and a grant for $673 for soil strength testing equipment to Dickinson State University. Directors and Officers were elected at the Foundation's recent Annual Meeting. Todd Vogel was re-elected President. Todd is the Manager at Plains Grain & Agronomy, LLC at Marion, ND and a Director of the North Dakota Grain Dealers Association. Paul Lautenschlager was elected Vice President. Paul is the Manager at Beach Co-op Grain Co. at Beach, ND and a Director of the North Dakota Grain Dealers Association. Re-elected as Directors were Tony Johannesen, Manager at Dakota Prairie Ag in Edgeley, ND and a Director of the North Dakota Grain Dealers Association; Joel Janke, Public Relations Officer of the ND FFA Foundation, Bismarck, ND; and Elton Solseng, Instructor, Agricultural Systems Management at NDSU. Steve Strege and Cheryal Welle both of Fargo, serve as Executive Vice President and Executive Assistant respectively. They each hold the same offices with the North Dakota Grain Dealers Association. The Foundation was incorporated in 1980 by the North Dakota Grain Dealers Association to promote agribusiness education in North Dakota. Primary emphasis is on students entering the grain marketing industry or other agribusiness. The Foundation has now awarded almost $160,000 in scholarships and instructional aid grants over twenty-eight academic years.
