Date Posted: November 14, 2013
Good farm to market roads are necessary before agricultural commodities can reach the first buyer. Many rural roads, and particularly bridges, designed in the early part of the 20th Century have difficulty accommodating 21st Century agriculture.
The lack of funding at the county and township level creates a problem, so what is the solution? Fewer road? What would be the impact of that?
Mike Steenhoek, executive director of the Soy Transportation Coalition, outlines the findings of an extensive study undertaken by the group and discusses some of the recommendations. Those recommendations will get a lot of discussion in rural communities.
