Propel Biofuels and Sen. Cantwell Welcome First Locally-Grown Canola Biodiesel to Fueling Stations in Seattle, WA

Date Posted: October 15, 2007

Seattle, WA--Senator Maria Cantwell headlined Propel Biofuel's Ballard station dedication at 11:00AM, Oct. 10 at 4420 Leary Way NW (Bernie’s Automotive).

Propel’s fueling stations in Ballard and Kenmore will be the first public locations in the region to offer biodiesel that contains Washington grown canola.

“I’m proud that Washington state is at the cutting edge of the growing biodiesel marketplace, but we can do more,” says Cantwell, a member of the Senate Energy and Finance Committees.

“That’s why I’m fighting to get the landmark Energy bill that we passed in the Senate recently to the President’s desk.

"Biodiesel is part of the answer to curbing our nation's over-dependence on fossil fuels, cleaning up our air, and combating climate change.”

Currently Washington imports all of its petroleum diesel fuel, close to 1 billion gallons annually. In addition to the economic costs, petroleum is the single largest cause of greenhouse gas emissions in Washington.

Diesel particulate matter emissions have been identified as hazardous to human health by the EPA. Biodiesel dramatically reduces both CO2 and particulate matter emissions.

“Our customers have asked for the most local fuel available” says Propel founder and president Rob Elam.

“Opening these stations will demonstrate to farmers the high demand for sustainably grown local energy crops”, according to Elam.

“We’re working with farmers, refiners and distributors to create a biofuels industry in Washington” says David O’Neal, CEO of Propel Biofuels.

“We’re thrilled to bring business fleets and individual drivers this new fuel choice.”

The Ballard and Kenmore locations are the first of many Propel Biodiesel stations coming to Western Washington.

Over 15 more locations are planned in areas including South Lake Union, North Seattle, West Seattle, Woodinville, Redmond, East Bellevue, Downtown Bellevue, Lake Forest Park, Monroe, Mt. Baker, Kent, Bremerton, Factoria and Poulsbo.

The stations will be open 24 hours and accept all major credit cards and fleet cards.
