Retaining employees has become very difficult, and we’re always looking for ways to hang on to good people,” said Jim McKerchar, director of operations and capital assets at Parrish & Heimbecker Ltd.
GEAPS and Kansas State University have a course to assist with the current staffing challenges in the grain industry.
GEAPS 580: Hiring and Retaining Good Employees is now open for registration.
GEAPS 580 is ideal for managers wishing to learn more about human resources and for small companies without HR departments.
“A supervisor that has hiring responsibilities would gain a lot about managing people, hiring, orientation and branding the company [from the course],” said Barb Quandt, HR director at West Central and one of the course creators.
Topics include how to conduct an effective interview, employee selection and job offers, on-boarding programs, mentoring and coaching, performance reviews and managing generational differences.
What’s the ROI?
“The time it takes to fill a position, keeping the business out of the court room, turnover rate and more,” said Quandt.
Courses run Nov. 4-Dec. 6. Registration closes Oct. 29.
