Date Posted: August 21, 2008

Subsequent to the results of 2007, OJSC PAVA - one of the major grain processors of the Russian Federation – became the best exporter of the national flour-milling industry.

Apart from commercial sales, a large volume of the company’s products is regularly shipped to overseas markets as food aid within the framework of the United Nations World Food Programme (UNO WFP).

WFP is the largest humanitarian organization in the world which was founded in 1963 under the auspices of the UNO, intended to fight against global hunger by providing food aid to developing countries.

The Organization promotes economic and social development of these countries and combats poverty.

PAVA has been an active participant of WFP for more than 2 years, and in the course of the programme supplied high-quality fortified flour to a number of countries.

Flour exported to the less developed countries is enriched with minerals and vitamins, since flour fortification is widely considered to be one of the most effective vitamin and trace elements deficiency replenisher.

Owing to the fact that fortified flour boosts the immune system, it becomes an indispensable product in the countries with a lack of vital foodstuffs.

Fortified flour is produced by one of the company’s leading enterprises, Rebrikha milling plant.

The geography of food aid shipments is represented by the CIS countries such as Tajikistan and Azerbaijan, Central-Asian state Afghanistan, countries of the African continent - Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia.

In April, 2008 PAVA shipped flour to Ingushetia – helping to provide food security for one of the poorest regions in Russia which gave shelter to thousands refugees from Chechnya.

The most recent deliveries made by PAVA in the line of WFP took place in June, 2008.

The company shipped 2, 860 tonnes of flour to North Korea and over 1,500 tonnes to Bangladesh.
