Rymes Promotes Biodiesel Fuel in New Hampshire with Bulk Terminal

Date Posted: March 25, 2004

The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services and Rymes Propane and Oils, Inc., of Concord plan to announce April 2 the opening of the first bulk biodiesel terminal in New Hampshire, along with five additional retail outlets for the sale of blended biodiesel.

The project will make the cleaner fuel more readily available statewide.

Rymes Propane and Oils, Inc. recently received its first railcar shipment of pure biodiesel (B100), a domestically produced vegetable oil-based diesel fuel replacement, direct from a midwestern manufacturer to their new storage facility in North Stratford, NH.

Rymes will sell the biodiesel wholesale from the bulk terminal and in a 20 percent blend with petroleum diesel (B20) at five retail fueling stations located in Antrim, Peterborough, Keene, Greenfield, and Loudon.

This local source of biodiesel will help ensure a steady supply of the cleaner-burning fuel in New Hampshire and could lead to a reduction in the price of biodiesel and biodiesel blends in the region.

Biodiesel is typically derived from natural oils such as soybean or canola oil.

It can also be manufactured from recycled restaurant grease.

It is a cleaner burning fuel that is nontoxic, biodegradable, and works in existing diesel engines with few or no modifications.

By increasing the supply and distribution of biodiesel in New Hampshire (there is currently only one retail outlet for biodiesel in the state), Rymes will help increase awareness of the benefits of this fuel.

Rymes Propane and Oils, Inc., is a member of the Granite State Clean Cities Coalition, a group of 50 stakeholders promoting the use of alternative fuel vehicles and associated fueling capacity to increase our nation’s energy security and reduce air pollution.
