2nd Annual Soy Biodiesel 225 Race at Iowa Speedway in Newton, IA Promotes Industry

Date Posted: September 26, 2007

Urbandale, IA--An exciting, close finish capped off a perfect evening of racing at the 2nd Annual Soy Biodiesel 225 Race held Sept. 22 at the Iowa Speedway in Newton, IA.

The race was sponsored by the Iowa Soybean Association and Renewable Energy Group, Inc.

“We are proud to help sponsor the Soy Biodiesel 225 for the second year.

"Iowa soybean producers have supported the biodiesel industry since the early 1990s through the soybean checkoff, says Curt Sindergard, ISA president and a soybean farmer near Rolfe, IA.

“We are celebrating the growth of the biodiesel industry and Iowa’s top ranking in the nation as the leader in biodiesel production capacity.

"Biodiesel is good for our engines, good for the state and good for the economy,” said Sindergard. He was one of several speakers during pre-race ceremonies.

“The Renewable Energy Group recognizes the importance of renewable fuels and we are proud sponsors of this race. REG produces and markets a clean biodiesel that helps reduce our alliance on foreign oil,” said Jeff Stroburg, REG chairman and chief executive officer.

The Soy Biodiesel 225 Race, attended by a crowd of more than 18,000, was won in the final lap by Matt Carter, 26, of Denver, NC.

With sparks flying between their cars down the backstretch, Carter dueled it out with Jay Fogelman of Durham, NC, who had been in the lead.

Fogelman came in third as Trevor Bayne, a 16-year-old from Knoxville, TN, roared in from the high side of the track to steal second place at the checkered flag.
