Date Posted: March 18, 2008

Paia, HI—Aptly occurring on National Biodiesel Day, the Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance (SBA) announced March 18 the installment of a new executive director, Jeff Plowman of Austin Biofuels, who will be taking over the position from interim E.D. Kelly King who co-founded the organization in 2006.

The mission of the SBA is "to create a better world through sustainable, community-based biodiesel."

"Jeff not only understands our goals," King emphasized, "he has committed his life's work to doing biodiesel the right way."

King, who is also vice president of Pacific Biodiesel, Inc., added that she is thrilled to "turn over the reins to someone so competent and dedicated."

"I am very pleased to be a part of the SBA, this mission is extremely important to the biodiesel industry," said Plowman. "The future of our industry depends upon it."

Plowman has been involved with biodiesel development since 2000.

He was formerly president of Austin Biofuels LLC (ABF), a biodiesel marketing and distribution company located in Austin, Texas.

During Plowman's tenure at ABF, the company opened the first biodiesel retail station in Texas, developed a sustainable Texas based supply chain and helped put Austin on the map as the highest concentration of biodiesel availability in the nation.

Co-chair Annie Nelson, another co-founder of the SBA, added, "We are lucky to have Jeff come aboard at a critical time when the positive sustainable aspects of biodiesel really need to be emphasized and protected," Nelson said.

"Rudolf Diesel had always intended for diesel fuel to be renewable, economical and locally-produced,” Nelson continued.

Plowman began his duties as Executive Director of the Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance on March 18, National Biodiesel Day, the anniversary of the birthday of Rudolf Diesel, inventor of the diesel engine.

The SBA is a non-profit organization created to promote sustainable biodiesel practices, including the harvesting, production and distribution of biodiesel fuels.
