The Scoular Company Acquires Grain Handling Facility in Andres, IL
Date Posted: February 27, 2013
Omaha, NE—The Scoular Company announced Feb. 27 its acquisition of the assets of Andres & Wilton Farmers Grain and Supply Co.
Scoular’s acquisition included a grain-handling facility located in Andres, IL, about 40 miles south of Chicago.
Terms of the transaction were not announced.
Like Andres & Wilton, Scoular has been in the business of buying grain from farmers for more than a century.
Greg Lickteig, Scoular Director who worked closely on the acquisition, says the company will continue the local cooperative’s commitment to area farmers.
“Scoular will work with farmers on a one-on-one basis, while leveraging the company’s world-wide network to offer competitive prices,” said Lickteig.
The newly acquired country elevator will be incorporated into Scoular’s North American grain marketing network of more than 70 offices and facilities throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
In addition to the Andres facility, Scoular has four other grain operations in Illinois—country elevators in Waverly and Palmyra, a shuttle-train loading facility just outside of Waverly, and a container transloading facility in Channahon as well as a merchandising office in Chicago.
Lickteig added that Scoular plans to bring even more marketing opportunities to Andres area farmers by expanding the facility’s container-loading capabilities and increasing its access to export markets.
Don Hellriegel, president of Andres & Wilton’s board of directors, said he’s excited about Scoular’s presence in Andres.
“I think a lot of people who might have driven by this facility in the past will want to make this the new destination for their grain,” said Hellriegel.
“Scoular can leverage its size, experience, and expertise to bring a lot of new marketing opportunities to farmers in our area.”
