U.S. Poultry and Egg Association Names John Starkey as New PresidentDate Posted: November 12, 2007 The U.S. Poultry & Egg Association board of directors has selected John Starkey to become the association’s new president effective Dec. 1. He will manage the total business affairs of the association, in keeping with the policies of the board of directors, under the supervision of the officers of the executive committee and the board. Starkey joined USPOULTRY as vice president of environmental programs in 2000. “USPOULTRY has a long history of support for the poultry industry,” said Henry Welch, chairman of the board. “We are confident that John’s educational background, knowledge of the industry, and service in the environmental arena will enable him to help lead the association in the challenging years ahead.” “I’m appreciative of the confidence the board has shown in naming me Don Dalton’s successor,” said John Starkey. “I’m grateful to Don for the outstanding leadership he has provided USPOULTRY during his tenure. "I am excited to continue USPOULTRY’s tradition of service to the industry and will continue to explore innovative ways to enhance our service.” Starkey earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Purdue University and a master’s degree in sanitary engineering from Georgia Tech. He is a registered professional engineer. Prior to his USPOULTRY service, Starkey served as manager of environmental engineering for Gold Kist, director of environmental affairs for Hudson Foods, and a principal in the engineering firm of Vaughn, Coltrane & Associates. Starkey also served on the USPOULTRY Research Advisory Committee from 1993-99. He is a member of the Water Environment Federation.
