United Cooperative (WI) Announces Ten $1,000 Scholarship WinnersDate Posted: April 21, 2009 Beaver Dam, WI—United Cooperative, based out of Beaver Dam, WI recently announced the names of 10 graduating high school seniors that will receive $1,000 scholarships from United Cooperative. The 10 recipients chosen from about 60 applications include: Mara Budde, Beaver Dam; Zachary Halverson, Deerfield; Nathan Scheuers, Fox Lake; Lindsay Knoebel, Helenville; Melissa Nied, Mayville; Michael Niemann, North Freedom; Courtney Churchill, Reedsburg; Charles Zingsheim, Rubicon; Christine McFarland, Watertown; and Lauren Holterman; Watertown. Applicants and/or their parents had to be patron members of United Cooperative. Applicants must also attend an accredited college, university, or technical school and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or above on a 4.0 scale. Students were judged on their leadership skills, scholastic achievement, extra curricular activities, motivation, and academic and personal goals. At least five of the scholarships were awarded to students majoring in agricultural fields, and at least one was presented to a student attending a technical school. Mara Budde, Beaver Dam, is the daughter of Scott and Bonnie Budde. She is a senior at Beaver Dam High School, Beaver Dam, and will attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison, majoring in agricultural business. Zachary Halverson, Deerfield, is the son of Perry and Julie Halverson. Following his graduation from Deerfield High School, Deerfield, he will attend Michigan Technological University, Houghton, MI, for mechanical engineering. Nathan Scheuers, Fox Lake, is the son of Dan and Jan Scheuers. After he graduates from Central Wisconsin Christian School, Waupun, Scheuers plans to attend Dordt College, Sioux Center, Iowa, for communications and theatre arts. Lindsay Knoebel, Helenville, is the daughter of Steven and Jody Knoebel. She is a senior at Jefferson High School, Jefferson, and plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-River Falls to pursue a bachelor’s in animal science. Melissa Nied, Mayville, is the daughter of Joseph and Shelly Nied. Following her graduation from Mayville High School, Mayville, she will attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison with an engineering major. Michael Niemann, North Freedom, is the son of Dean and Trudy Niemann. After he graduates from Sauk Prairie High School, Prairie du Sac, he will attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison Farm and Industry Short Course pursuing an education in dairy farm management. Courtney Churchill, Reedsburg, is the daughter of Kevin and Sandra Churchill. She is a senior at Reedsburg Area High School, Reedsburg, and will attend the University of Wisconsin-Platteville this fall majoring in agricultural business. Charles Zingsheim, Rubicon, is the son of Gerald and Nancy Zingsheim. Following his graduation from Hartford Union High School, Hartford, he will continue his education at the University of Wisconsin- Platteville, in environmental engineering. Christine McFarland, Watertown, is the daughter of Peter and Cynthia McFarland. After her graduation from Watertown High School, Watertown, she will attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison pursuing education in dairy science. Finally, Lauren Holterman, Watertown, is the daughter of Lloyd and Daphne Holterman. She is a senior at Watertown High School, Watertown, and will study food science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison this fall. These scholarships will be paid upon receipt of transcript showing completion of the first semester and proof of registration for the second semester. The scholarships were made available through the United Cooperative Federated Youth Foundation account. The Cooperative Network Federated Youth Foundation committee selected the 10 recipients.
