Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services ... Grain Program Assistant Supervisor
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Marketing, is seeking an Assistant Supervisor for the Grain Marketing Program.
The incumbent of this position will be responsible for assisting the Program Supervisor in effectively managing the day to day operation of the grain marketing.
Duties will include planning, developing and supervising staff to ensure USDA licensed personnel are available to provide uniform unbiased marketing services to the Virginia grain dealers and handlers; investigate and resolve customer services issues; develop employee work standards and address performance issues as necessary; and provide staff training. This position will also perform inspector responsibilities as necessary to ensure industry needs are met.
Qualifications: Preferred candidate will possess a BS degree in business, agriculture or administration and work experience in a federal or state grain grading/inspection program; however, an equivalent combination of relevant training and work experience is acceptable.
The successful candidate must possess a USDA-FGIS license for stowage examinations, weighing, sampling, corn, soybeans, wheat, barley, mixed grain, protein and oil testing and chemical testing and posses a valid drivers license.
Must demonstrate a proven ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) with a diverse clientele; sound knowledge of the USDA-FGIS standards and regulations for all varieties of grain; experience and knowledge of export certification requirements; ability to train and supervise people; exceptional organizational and time management skills; ability to independently manage the Grain Program and make decisions in the absence of the Program Supervisor and possess outstanding customer services skills.
Incumbent must have the ability to stand for long periods, climb/descend of up to 50 feet, reach, and frequently bend/stoop, distinguish colors and odors.
Hiring Salary Range: $40,959 - $50,000, commensurate with relevant experience.
