Wheat Growers (SD) Observes Grain Bin Safety Week
Date Posted: February 18, 2014
Aberdeen, SD—Wheat Growers wants to remind Dakota farmers and ranchers that Grain Bin Safety Week is February 23 through March 1. The week is aimed at increasing awareness of the dangers associated with handling grain.
Wheat Growers is partnering with Nationwide Agribusiness Insurance Company, Farm Safety for Just Kids, Heartland Co-op, Iowa FFA Foundation, National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS) and others to bring visibility to grain safety procedures that can save lives.
“Wheat Growers is proud to partner with these agricultural organizations to help save lives,” said Bill Spreeman, Wheat Growers Vice President, Safety, Environmental and Regulatory Affairs. “Our focus is to provide relevant, timely education to our member-owners and employees about the positive ways we can make working in and around grain bins as safe as possible.”
Spreeman noted that one of the successful Wheat Growers’ safety initiatives is GERT, the Grain Engulfment Rescue Trainer that brings safety messages and training to schools, community groups, first responders, fire departments and others.
“We will continue to spread the safety message to our customers and the communities we serve,” Spreeman said.
“GERT is just one of the tools and programs Wheat Growers offers that helps spread the farm safety message to our employees, customers and rescue organizations in our trade area.
"We want all farm families and those that work in or around grain operations to be safe not only during grain bin safety week, but all year round.”
