World Energy Announces Successful Pipeline Move of Biodiesel

Date Posted: November 29, 2006

BOSTON, MA-–World Energy Alternatives, LLC announced Nov. 21 the successful movement of blended biodiesel on a pipeline.

The segregated batch movement of 75,000 barrels, which traveled from Texas to New Jersey, occurred in August of this year.

This represents the first time U.S. soy biodiesel has been transported on a common carrier pipeline.

The announcement was made after the results of extensive testing became available.

“We are very pleased the B5 batch traveled the distance without any downgrading,” said Gene Gebolys, CEO and founder of World Energy.

“We set out to demonstrate that it’s time to include biodiesel in the family of fuels that can travel safely on our nation’s pipelines, and we succeeded.”

The World Energy biodiesel was supplied via barge to a pipeline shipper’s tank where it was blended to a B5 blend level with #2 low sulfur diesel fuel.

Prior to blending, the biodiesel was tested internally by World Energy and subjected to a third party survey and independent analysis.

The fuel quality exceeded ASTM guidelines as well as World Energy’s stricter specifications.

Once blended and shipped on the pipeline, the blended biodiesel fuel and subsequent batches were rigorously tested at numerous junctures.

“Adequate distribution has been the missing link in the biodiesel supply chain,” Gebolys concluded.

“At World Energy, we have established the largest infrastructure in the industry to address this.

"Getting on the pipeline will represent an historic expansion of our capacity.”
