GEAPS North Central Regional Conference a Success

Date Posted: June 17, 2005

Ames, IA--Although attendance was down, organizers of the second GEAPS North Central Regional Conference, June 14-15, Ames, IA said the event was a success.

"I'm somewhat disappointed in the numbers, but overall the show was successful," said Kevin Miles, conference chairman.

"The people that were there enjoyed it.

"They said they enjoyed the educational sessions and exhibitors said they had good responses."

This year, 267 people attended and there were 81 exhibitors.

At the first show in 2002, 328 people attended and there were 84 exhibitors.

Miles said there are no plans currently for another show.

The decision to have the event usually depends on the location of the GEAPS International conference.

"Since the show was in Albuquerque, NM this year, which is quite a distance from here, we thought we'd bring the international conference on a smaller scale back here," Miles said.

"Next year's international show is in Nashville, then Grapevine, TX, and then Omaha so it looks like it's going to be awhile before we have the North Central show again," he said.

The GEAPS chapters participating in the North Central show included Greater Iowa, Greater Nebraska, Great River, Mid-America, Minneapolis, and Siouxland.

Committee chairs for the event included Miles, chairman; Mike Blum, registration; Mike Spillum, expo; Gary Sanderoth, promotion; Gary Vaughn, educational programming; and Andy Heck, sponsorship.
