Sukup Mfg.'s Charles E. Sukup Named President of American Society of Agricultural Engineers

Date Posted: July 12, 2005

St. Joseph, MI-—Charles E. Sukup has been elected president of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE) for the year 2006-2007.

Sukup will take office as president-elect at the close of the ASAE Annual International Meeting, being held July 16-20 in Tampa, FL.

His tenure will coincide with an exceptionally historic period in the Society's history, as activities for ASAE's 2007 centennial will kick off the summer of 2006.

Additionally, the Society will likely be preparing for centennial events with a new name: a change to the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers has been approved by membership and is pending formal adoption at the Tampa meeting.

Sukup is president of Sukup Manufacturing Co. in Sheffield, IA.

The company is the world's largest family-owned manufacturer of grain handling and storage equipment, including grain dryers and farm and commercial grain bins.

Primarily responsible for engineering and sales of Sukup Manufacturing Products, Sukup became president of the company in 1995.

Since that time the company has added portable grain dryers and grain bins for farm and commercial storage, which more than doubled the size of the company.

A 26-year member of ASAE, Sukup has served the Society in a number of offices.

He has been a member of the ASAE Board of Trustees, the Nominating Committee, and numerous executive and technical committees, at both the state and national levels.

He has received several ASAE Awards including the ASAE Sunkist Young Designer Award, ASAE Mid Central Region Young Engineer of the Year, and Iowa Section Young Engineer of the Year.

Sukup obtained bachelor's and master's degrees from Iowa State University, and he holds seven patents for grain handling and tillage equipment.

Sukup and his wife, Mary, a former home economics and art teacher, have a daughter and two sons.

He currently serves on the board of Lutheran Services in Iowa and the Executive Board of the Iowa Association of Business and Industry.

He is an organist at Zion St. John Lutheran Church and served on the Iowa 4-H Foundation.
