Agdia Appoints New Scientific Director

| | Dr. Luis (Lucho) F. Salazar | Elkhart, IN (October 5, 2006) -- Agdia, Inc. is pleased to announce that Dr. Luis (Lucho) F. Salazar has joined the company as scientific director. Already well-established in the field through his professional achievements, scientific papers and published works, Lucho’s new role within Agdia will expand his standing at the forefront of the worldwide agricultural community.
In his new position with Agdia, Lucho will be responsible for expanding the company’s interaction with breeders, researchers, and growers to solve problems with plant pathogens in agricultural, fruit and vegetable, ornamental, and horticultural crops through the use of Agdia’s innovative programs, services, and products. Lucho will continue to work with the agricultural community to bring “total solutions” to crop propagation programs. He will be based in Elkhart.
Prior to joining Agdia, Lucho was principal scientist at the International Potato Center (CIP), located in Lima, Peru. While at CIP, in his position as senior virologist and head of the Crop Protection Department, Lucho introduced many new programs and products for crop protection and improvement to the worldwide agricultural community, especially to benefit developing countries. He also held positions within the Ministry of Agriculture Peru.
Lucho has published numerous scientific papers and books for the global agricultural community, has received many honors for his work in the field, and is actively involved in or a member of numerous scientific organizations worldwide, including the European Association for Potato Research; Potato Association of America; Asociacion Latinoamericana de Papa; Asociacion Peruana de Fitopatologia; Asociacion Latinoamericana de Fitopatologia; International Union of Microbiological Societies – Virology Division; Association of Applied Virology – UK; American Phytopathological Society; International Working Group on Tropical Virology; and International Society of Horticultural Sciences.
Agdia, Inc., is located in Elkhart, Ind., USA. Since 1981, Agdia has been developing and providing products and services to detect pathogens in plants. The company markets its products in over 120 countries and offers tests for over 200 pathogens, including viruses, bacteria, viroids, phytoplasmas, and fungi that infect plants. Agdia also operates a Testing Services Department that analyzes plant samples from around the world.
