The heightened interest in the field of renewable energy and alternative fuels will propel engineering innovations and their commercialization.

Such development and implementation of new biofuel ideas at this increasingly rapid pace does not always lend itself to the drawn out process of patent protection.

And the development of biofuel innovations requires large-scale interdependencies between various groups, including inventors, biomass producers, suppliers, vendors, consultants, investors, engineering services, contractors, etc.

Two attorneys from Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP, an intellectual property law firm in Chicago, Richard B. Hoffman and Thomas I. Ross, will present "Trade Secret Protection and the Biofuel Industry," Wednesday, May 13, 2009, 2:00 P.M. Central, providing ways to attain prompt protection and enforcement through the use of trade secrets, so as to achieve or maintain a competitive advantage.

Hoffman and Ross will review trade secret law and issues pertinent to the biofuels industry, such as:

  • Trade Secret Law Basics
  • Trade Secret Protection Programs
  • Hypothetical Biofuels Trade Secrets
  • Biofuel Trade Secret Pitfalls
  • Examples of Biofuel Trade Secret Controversies
  • Anatomy of Trade Secret Litigation

One hour of CLE credit is available to Illinois attorneys who participate.
