Biodiesel CO2 Credits Could Become a Valuable Trading Commodity for Fleets

The carbon credit trading system is up and running in the U.S.  Currently, carbon credits are trading on a “voluntary market.”  The U.S. is considering a cap and trade market where carbon emissions are limited or “capped” for industries and companies.  Even in a voluntary market, many companies are gearing up for buying and selling carbon credits either to make up for a short fall in carbon reduction or to make money from carbon reduction measures.  Biodiesel is one of the tools used to cut down on carbon or more specifically, carbon dioxide (CO2) and therefore develop credits for trade.

Who's Using Biodiesel? We met these truckers at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas.

Greg Barth of Copperas Cove, TX

"I enjoy using biodiesel to offset the lubricity issues with the new ULSD. I also want to help the American farming industry and decrease our dependence on foreign oil. "

Pat & Linda Clyde of Lake Jackson, TX
---------

"We use B10 for increased power and mileage in our Kenworth T600. "

John & Charmaine Davis of Seminary, MS

"I like biodiesel because my truck runs better and it burns cleaner. "
Cindy Stowe of Wills Point, TX -------
"I started using biodiesel on account of Willie Nelson's discussions on it. I tried it, liked it and liked the performance of my truck. I still use it and recommend it to everyone. "

Brenda Thompson of Garden City, KS

"I buy biodiesel because it is normally less expensive. Also, it makes my truck get better fuel mileage and run smoother."

Kithie & Lorene Wheeler of Aguanga, CA

"Biodiesel is great for my truck and has improved my mileage. I have 1,000,000 miles on my truck and it is still running great."

Sherman Allen of Phenix City, AL

"I enjoy using biodiesel in my '99 International. I have seen an increase in fuel economy and the engine runs a lot smoother."

Jeff Magouirk of Ocala, FL

"With biodiesel, my truck has better performance in all ways as far as running cooler, more horsepower, and for the best, better fuel mileage."

Don & Deborah Thornton of Corning, IA

"We fight for better fuel. That's why we use biodiesel in our 2006 Freightliner."

Earl Smith of Waycross, GA

"Biodiesel works great in my Volvo 880. I get 6.9 miles per gallon with biodiesel."

Michael & Lee Allen of Grenada, MS

"I use biodiesel in my Freightliner and it gets better fuel mileage. Biodiesel also makes the engine run quieter."

First-Ever Over-the-Road CO2 Reduction Study with Biodiesel
Freight Companies Can Tout Documented Environmental Benefits

Soon, freight carriers will be able to demonstrate their emissions savings by using biodiesel fuel.  The

CO2
Fred Barker of Indigenous Energy and Tom Verry of NBB are interviewed by Midnight Trucking Radio Network.

National Biodiesel Board has teamed-up with Chicago-based Indigenous Energy, LLC, developers of emissions tracking systems, and Los Angeles-based States Logistics, a fleet and logistics company using clean technology, on an over-the-road pilot.  The six-month pilot will culminate in a report quantifying States Logistics’ emissions and carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction from using biodiesel, a cleaner burning fuel with a lifecycle CO2 reduction of 78 percent.  So far, results for May and June showed a 16.5 ton reduction in CO2 emissions.
