The NGFA and Kansas State University are teaming up to present another Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) training course on Jan. 29-31 in Manhattan, Kan.
The course, co-led by NGFA Senior Vice President of Feed Services Dave Fairfield, is targeted for businesses required to comply with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) rule for Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis, and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Food for Animals.
The FDA FSMA-related animal food rule requires that certain activities specified within the regulations be completed by a “preventive controls qualified individual.”
Such activities include overseeing or performing:
1) preparation of the required food safety plan;
2) validation of the preventive controls;
3) records review;
4) reanalysis of the food safety plan; and
5) other activities as appropriate to the food.
As defined by the animal food rule, a preventive controls qualified individual “means a qualified individual who has successfully completed training in the development and application of risk-based preventive controls at least equivalent to that received under a standardized curriculum recognized as adequate by FDA or is otherwise qualified through job experience to develop and apply a food safety system.”
The training content for this course, developed by the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA), is the “standardized curriculum” recognized by FDA.
Successfully completing this course is one way to meet the requirements for a “preventive controls qualified individual.”
Fairfield chaired the Animal Food Working Group under the FSPCA that developed the training and education program.
This course offers both FSPCA training and accredited hazard analysis and critical control point (HACCP) training.
