GEAPS and K-State University to Hold Grain Elevator Managers Courses in 2020

Manhattan, KS - Grain quality, personal management and inventory strategies are just a few important concepts that grain elevator managers must know.

To help managers excel in the industry, Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS) and Kansas State University (K-State) are offering the GEAPS/K-State Grain Elevator Managers course.

The first course will be held January 21-24, 2020 and a second offering will be held May 5-8, 2020.

Both offerings will be located in Manhattan, Kansas.

“This training allows operators, managers and professionals from the grain science industry an opportunity to gain the information they need to properly handle and store grain,” says Carlos Campabadal, grain storage and feed manufacturing outreach specialist.

Course participants will discuss topics such as personnel management; grain quality management; grain handling equipment; grain drying; grain operations costs; grain inventory management; grain receiving and shipping; grain condition monitoring; grain aeration strategies; and fumigation.

Past participant, Tiffany Harmon, food safety and quality assurance manager at Garden City Coop, explains that the information presented on grain handling and quality control systems is something she will take back to her company.

“This course gave me a great amount of information and knowledge on how to properly manage grain elevators,” Harmon says.

She adds, “The instructors were very knowledgeable, and it was nice seeing them put their own real-world work experiences in their presentations. It helped us tie those experiences into our own jobs.”

The training costs $670.00 for GEAPS members and $1,000 for non-members.
