Morrow County Grain Growers' Expanded Rail/Barge Terminal Unloads Its First Shuttle Train

Morrow County Grain Growers Inc. General Manager Kevin Gray (541-989-8221) on March 5 reported the Pacific Northwest cooperative unloaded its first shuttle train on the Union Pacific Railroad at its newly-expanded rail and barge terminal on the Columbia River at Boardman, OR.

The 110-car train carrying corn was unloaded at 60,000 bph utilizing a Calbrandt railcar gate opener.

The 600,000 bushel steel (Sukup Mfg.) expansion, constructed by The Haskins Co., was intended to relieve rail congestion farther down the Columbia Valley by transferring grain en route to export terminals in and around Portland, OR from rail to barge.

Some corn also is intended for shipment to livestock operations in northeast Oregon and nearby parts of Washington.

The estimated $7.5 million expansion was funded, in part, by a $2.5 million grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation through its ConnectOregon program.
