FrigorTec Opens New Production Facility for Granifrigor Grain Cooling Units

AMTZELL, Germany — After six months of construction, FrigorTec has now moved into an additional production facility at its Amtzell headquarters.

The Granifrigor grain cooling units will be manufactured in the new facility, which doubles the production area at FrigorTec, easing a cramped situation. For more than 15 years, FrigorTec has been growing, making an additional production facility necessary and worth a significant investment, the company said in a news release.

This investment should also lead to significant savings. In particular, the internal material routes are now shorter, and the logistics have a clearer structure. Ultimately, all products will benefit from an improved space situation.

The new two-bay facility boasts an area of 1,300 meters squared and a height of 12 meters. Two state-of-the-art gantry cranes from Konecranes/Finland, which can move weights of up to 10 tons, have been installed under the roof.

Konecranes, is an important customer of FrigorTec. The company deploys crane air conditioning units from FrigorTec for the air conditioning of converters in crane systems, and in crane cabins in large cranes and port cranes.

In the old facility, there is now more room for the crane air conditioning units, optimizing operational procedures. Particularly noteworthy are also the 15-meter wide outside gates that allow lorries to be loaded sideways without having to move.

In the new facility, a significant effort was made to save energy as well. Thermal insulation is thicker than usual, and in particular, the large gates have been equipped with vacuum elements. In this way, the classification KfW-EG 70 for energy consumption was achieved.

The floor heating (concrete core activation) in the entire facility also saves energy. Large windows and skylight strips allow lots of daylight into the facility, and when it is dark, modern LED lighting ensures optimal workplace conditions.

Since 1963, FrigorTec has built grain cooling units that protect approximately 80 million tons of grain from mold, carcinogenic mycotoxins, and insects, in 74 countries around the world.
