AFIA Honors Woo Kyun Kim With Poultry Nutrition Award

Arlington, VA - June 29, 2020 - The American Feed Industry Association has honored Woo Kyun Kim, Ph.D., with the annual AFIA-Poultry Science Association (PSA) Poultry Nutrition Award.

“Dr. Kim’s breadth of experience and research in the area of gut health make him an excellent recipient of this award,” said Paul Davis, Ph.D., AFIA’s director of quality, animal food safety and education.

“The field of poultry nutrition is better off thanks to his passion and dedication.”

Kim, an associate professor and poultry nutritionist in the Department of Poultry Science at the University of Georgia teaches feed and feeding, poultry nutrition and vitamins in animal nutrition.

He also serves as a section editor for Poultry Science.

He is recognized for his work focusing on the roles of pre- and probiotics, amino acids, vitamins, minerals and enzymes on growth/laying performance, nutrient digestibility of feed ingredients, feed nutrient utilization, intestinal development, gut health, immunity and bone health in poultry.

Kim has published 124 peer-reviewed papers, 17 proceedings and symposium papers and 123 abstracts and obtained over $12 million in extramural funding from a wide variety of organizations.

He holds a doctorate and master’s degree in nutritional science and poultry science, respectively, from Pennsylvania State University and a bachelor’s degree in animal science from KonKuk University in South Korea.

He also served as a postdoctoral fellow from Texas A&M University and the University of California - Los Angeles.

The recognition is sponsored by AFIA as part of its ongoing awards program that began in 1948. To date, 69 people have been awarded the poultry science nutrition award.
