Story County, IA — Monday's derecho left a path of destruction across much of Iowa's agriculture scene, corn crops and grain bins laid low from straight line winds.
Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds said about 10 million acres were damaged by the storm, according to a report by WHO13News.
A derecho is a line of intense, widespread, and fast-moving windstorms and sometimes thunderstorms that moves across a great distance and is characterized by damaging winds.
Kent Craighton, a territory manager for Sukup Manufacturing Co. in Iowa, explained in a video why grain bins were so heavily damaged by the storm, particularly to Heartland Co-Op's facility in Slater.
